works | New Earth 2019

2-minute excerpt of a variable multi-channel video installation. 4k video converted to HD with sound. Captioned.

New Earth began as a study of Arizona’s Biosphere II and grew through linkages with Californian utopian communities begun in the 1970s, as well as a more personal exploration of the commune on which the artist grew up in Australia. This project draws connections between these disparate experiments based on the desire to create completely new worlds from new beginnings, and to leave behind corrupted societies in search of untouched and very separate ones. New Earth examines both the pitfalls of utopian thinking but also acknowledges the ambiguous but persistent lure of utopia, and its capacity for seduction.
